Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on members of his political family and stakeholders across the state to remain united in order to sustain the developmental strides of his administration beyond 2027.
The governor made the appeal on Friday during a meeting with political stakeholders, where he urged party leaders, aspirants and candidates for various elective positions to work together for the continuation of the achievements recorded since his administration came into office in 2019.
According to statement signed by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Governor, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Makinde stressed that the successes recorded by his government were products of collective efforts rather than individual accomplishments, noting that every member of the team had contributed to the growth and development of the state.
He warned against allowing personal ambitions to create divisions within the fold, stating that only a few people would eventually occupy elective positions out of the millions of residents in the state.
According to him, “There must not be any division, so that Oyo State people can continue to reap the benefits of this team. Only one person can occupy a position at any one time.”
The governor added that political engagements with stakeholders would continue, explaining that residents of the state were already demanding continuity of his administration’s policies and programmes.
He maintained that the people were willing to support the team irrespective of the political platform adopted in the future, provided the administration’s developmental agenda continued.
Makinde also cautioned against misinformation and disinformation capable of creating cracks within the political structure, urging members of the team to embrace reconciliation and peace-building.
“At this period, there will be a lot of misinformation and disinformation. People will be saying different things to divide us.
This is the period we need to settle whatever grievances we may have,” he said.
Reflecting on the political culture under his administration, the governor thanked God and the people of Oyo State for the opportunity to serve, noting that the state had witnessed peaceful congresses and candidate selection processes over the past seven years without violence.
He also remarked that leadership positions ultimately come from God, recalling that his original ambition was to become a senator before emerging governor.
The meeting was attended by several top government officials and political stakeholders, including Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal; Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin; member representing Ibadan South West/Ibadan North West Federal Constituency, Hon. Adedeji Stanley Olajide; and Chairman of the Ladoke Akintola Airport Upgrade Committee, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, among others.
