At a time when political leadership is increasingly being judged by competence, accountability and the ability to translate vision into tangible development, Kunle Olatunji KTJ, the 2027 governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo State, is presenting himself as a different kind of political proposition.
A product of Ibadan with more than three decades of experience cutting across corporate management, entrepreneurship, technology, marketing, media, public affairs, sports development and Christian ministry, Olatunji brings to the political arena a career built largely outside conventional partisan politics.
Born on August 31, 1968, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Olatunji Kunle James Gbolarumi Akinyele has roots in some of the historic families of Ibadan. He is from the Keji Family of Idi-Aro/Lajumoke Family of Oja’ba on his paternal side and the Oloya Family of Ita Ege, Idi-Aro, on his maternal side.
His educational journey began at Wesley College Practicing School, Elekuro, Ibadan, where he attended primary school between 1974 and 1979. He proceeded to Ibadan Christ Apostolic (CAC) Grammar School, Aperin Oniyere, from 1979 to 1984, before attending Ibadan Grammar School, Molete, where he obtained his HSC/WASC Advanced Level qualification between 1985 and 1987.
Olatunji later studied Geography and Planning at the University of Lagos, earning a Bachelor of Science degree between 1988 and 1991. He subsequently obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Ibadan between 2007 and 2009.
From Corporate Boardrooms to Public Service
Olatunji’s professional trajectory has taken him through several sectors of the Nigerian economy.
He began his corporate career as a Graduate Management Trainee with Academy Press Plc and later worked with SystemSpecs Ltd as a Solutions Adviser/Manager.
His career subsequently took him into the manufacturing and corporate services sectors, where he served as Head of Corporate Services and Marketing at Nigerian Wire and Cables Plc. He also became General Manager, Sales and Marketing, at Coleman Technical Industries Ltd.
These experiences, according to his political profile, exposed him to the practical demands of management, business development, marketing, corporate communication and organisational leadership.
His experience later extended into government and political communication.
Under the administration of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Olatunji served as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity. He also served as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly.
Beyond public service, he has been involved in entrepreneurship and business leadership, serving as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of G-Meritmetrics Ltd/Brandmetrics Ltd and Chairman/Executive Director of Femben Sports International Ltd.
A Bridge Between Business, Media and Governance
It is this unusual combination of private-sector management, entrepreneurship and public communication that Olatunji appears to be bringing into his 2027 political campaign.
His supporters portray him as a politician whose exposure is not limited to party structures or electoral contests, but one who has spent considerable time managing people, organisations, businesses and communication platforms.
For Olatunji, the central question appears to be how leadership can move beyond political rhetoric to measurable improvements in the lives of citizens.
His stated leadership philosophy is built around Vision, Purpose, Empathy, Commitment, Accountability and Collective Development.
These principles form the foundation of his campaign message, with emphasis on economic growth, human capital development, infrastructure, accountability and expanding opportunities for residents of Oyo State.
Faith and Leadership
Away from the corporate and political arena, Olatunji is also an ordained minister of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
He is the Presiding Pastor of King’s Praise Parish, Oyo Province 9, located off Akala Way, Bashorun, Akobo, Ibadan.
His Christian ministry represents another dimension of his public profile, combining religious leadership with his experience in business, administration and public affairs.
Family
Olatunji is married to Mrs. Mosunmola Olatunji, a plant genetic expert and senior researcher at the National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT), with a Ph.D. in view.
The couple are blessed with children.
The 2027 Proposition
As the 2027 governorship contest in Oyo State begins to take shape, Olatunji’s candidacy introduces another voice into a political landscape likely to be dominated by questions of continuity, succession, development and the future direction of the state.
For the ADP candidate, the argument is that leadership should be measured not simply by political pedigree but by preparation, competence, character and the capacity to deliver.
His professional journey—from corporate management to technology solutions, manufacturing, marketing, entrepreneurship, government communication, sports development and Christian ministry—forms the foundation of that argument.
Whether that experience will translate into electoral strength remains a question for the people of Oyo State to answer at the ballot box.
But Olatunji KTJ is clearly positioning his candidacy around a central proposition: that Oyo State needs leadership that combines vision with competence, purpose with empathy, and authority with accountability.
And that is the meaning behind the political identity he has chosen to project ahead of 2027:
Kunle Olatunji KTJ — Leadership Redefined.
