The Oyo state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that no amount of political coup or conspiracy against Governor Seyi Makinde by enemies of the state would see the light of the day as the party prepares ahead for Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections.

This was as the ruling PDP in the state hailed governor Makinde for his political doggedness, firmness and sagacity amidst fierce political gang up by those described as enemies of the masses stressing that the governor will triumph at the polls, emerge winner, and overcome his political enemies just as former governor Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja did in 2006 when faced with similar situation.

The Publicity Secretary of PDP in Oyo state, Akeem Olatunji reiterated this in a press statement made available to journalists on Thursday March 16 stressing politicians became focused on the governor’s natural human shortcomings for selfish and pecuniary motives.

He explained that no human being is a saint or could possibly claim to be one as nobody is infallible which was why the two Holy books emphasized that humans are mere mortals and imperfect creatures maintaining that Makinde has performed impressively and excellently well in his service to Oyo state than the wicked, cruel, and evil political conspiracy against him which he said is naturally destined to fail.

It would be recalled that on 12 January 2006, Ladoja was illegally impeached by Oyo state legislators and forced out of office. Olatunji stressed that Makinde’s time as the new Sheriff in town has come and no amount of wicked political calculations against him or his mandate till 2027 shall see the light of the day because the governor has an unfinished business at the Agodi Government House.

The party recalled however, that Ladoja triumphed and overcame his political traducers and enemies who fought him tooth and nail for no other reason than him standing firmly on the side of the masses and protected the state’s commonwealth from political marchants who would stop at nothing to get access to the state treasury.

Olatunji while charging the people of the state to rise in defense of good governance and speak loudly with their votes on Saturday maintained that if truly those parading themselves as friends of the masses were genuinely and honestly passionate about the people, what is naturally expected of them is to adequately support govenor Makinde for second term to complete his laudable projects not orchestrating political coup and wicked conspiracy.

He added that all the grouses and allegations levelled against Makinde and his government by those described as enemies of the masses whose primary target is the state treasury, are personal, selfish and anti-people saying Makinde may not be perfect as human being but he has been perfect on the job since assumption of office in 2019.

The party spokesman however, noted that while it was absolutely in order for people to expect to reap from where they have laboured, it was imperative and exigent on all to first understand and accept the very essence of governance and harbor expectations in moderation to avoid defeating the very essence of governance as exemplified by the governor.

While commending Makinde for his qualitative leadership and prudent financial management of the state’s resources, Olatunji berated the governor’s detractors for placing personal interest high above public interest and good assuring that no amount of darkness can prevail over light.

According to Olatunji; “We have keenly monitored the turn of events in Oyo state of late and we have come to a conclusion that enemies of the masses are already at it again conspiring to use every possible treacherous moves in their political onslaught against the people’s governor.

“We must equally remind the good people of Oyo state that they owe it a duty to themselves, their children and grandchildren, to defend good governance and its apostle as the political conspiracy against governor Makinde is never primarily about him but the state’s treasury.

“It was for this and similar reason that our father, former governor of Oyo state now the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja was vilified, persecuted and subjected to needless political war for standing up against enemies of the masses in 2006 and by those who would stop at nothing to simply lay their hands on the state’s coffers.

“We therefore, call on politicians of good conscience, the masses, the youths, students, market men and women, civil servants, and members of the general public to ones again arise and take up this political conspiracy against governor Makinde as their own as you have always done in defense of good governance and speak very loudly with your votes on Saturday, that they may know that the ultimate sovereign power lies with the people.” Olatunji said.
