Nurses and midwives at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have suspended their industrial action following the intervention of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
The health workers, who embarked on strike over welfare-related demands, announced the suspension after the governor personally visited the hospital to engage with management, professional bodies, and staff.
During the visit, Governor Makinde approved a ₦35 million increase in the hospital’s monthly subvention. He also directed the phased payment of accumulated promotion arrears and minimum wage arrears, while ordering the integration of non-staff personnel into the hospital’s system to ensure fairness and inclusivity.
The governor further promised the immediate constitution of a Governing Council for the institution and reaffirmed his commitment to complete the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annex in Oyo before the end of his administration.
In a statement jointly signed by the Unit Chairman, Comrade Ojewumi Olutayo, and Unit Secretary, Comrade Adedokun Foluwake, the nurses expressed deep appreciation to Governor Makinde, describing him as a “compassionate and visionary leader” who has rekindled hope through decisive actions.
“These measures not only address our immediate welfare demands but also lay the foundation for long-term stability and growth within the institution,” the statement read.
“On behalf of all nurses and midwives at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, we acknowledge Governor Makinde as a compassionate and visionary leader whose dedication to the well-being of health workers and the people of Oyo State remains unwavering.”
