LAUTECH Alumni Unveil E-library Donated by Megida Foundation

Gives Scholarship to 40 Students

The Alumni Association Worldwide of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) on Thursday commissioned N25 million worth of E-library and presents scholarships worth of N4million to 40 indigent students of the institution.

The institution’s Governing Council led by its Chairman – Prof. Ayodeji Omole; acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mojeed Liasu; all former alumni association presidents, chapter chairmen alongside their executive members; global executives, association’s stakeholders and other dignitaries joined Global President Onilede Solomon to officially commission e-library donated by Chief (Dr.) Samson Adegoke.

Global President Onilede in his speech at the epoch-making ceremony recalled how the foundation-laying ceremony of the over N25m worth infrastructure was done by the donor, Chief (Dr.) Adegoke on 5th April, 2019.

He pointed out that the e-lbrary is not only part of development that makes higher institutions viable in the modern world but also a project that signals the fact that LAUTECH is poised for unprecedented growth, capable of returning it to its glorious past.

Onilede while eulogizing the donor who was represented by Chairman of Maigida Foundation – Chief Gbadamosi, described him as a great philanthropist, exemplary partner-in-progress and son of the soil whose contributions to LAUTECH growth is exemplary and legendary.

“It is worthy to remember the assurance of Dr. Maigida that the e-library is just the beginning of his contributions to the development of LAUTECH. Permit me to quote our donor word-for-word: “What we are witnessing today (April 5th 2019) is just a tip of the iceberg. Let me assure you that more developmental donations are coming the way of the university”. With this categorical assurance statement, the LAUTECH Alumni Association and the University community will continue to benefit immensely from the philanthropic programmes of the Maigida Foundation. We’re Oliver Twist, We Ask for more Generational Projects” Onilede said.

The chairman of the governing council, Prof. Omole in his brief remark lauded Onilede-led alumni association for its landmark contributions to the growth and advancement of their Alma Mater.

“LAUTECH Alumni Association under the leadership of Hon. Onilede Solomon has demonstrated her responsiveness and responsibilities to the welfare of members and advancement of the Ivory Tower” the university don said.

The acting vice-chancellor of the institution, Prof. Liasu congratulated Onilede-led association for facilitating the project. He also commended the Alumni Association for giving scholarships worth about N4million to 40 indigent students of the institution.

The Alumni Association on July 12th 2021 announced beneficiaries of Scholarship Scheme for 2020/2021 academic session through an internal memo signed by the secretary of LAUTECH Alumni Scholarship Board, Prof. Lateef Agbaje.

According to the university don, the Alumni Association awards scholarships to indigent students who are well-rounded in their academic pursuit and have a vision for their future careers.

“Selection Committee met to review scholarship applications from qualified undergraduate students and successful applicants were selected based on merit” Prof. Agbaje noted

Prof. Agbaje further stated that the Alumni Association raised funds for the scholarships through personal donations from the Global President, some key members and from the purse of the association.

The scholarship scheme was launched in 2018 with personal donation of N1million from the Global President, Hon. Onilede Solomon. Since the maiden edition, indigent but brilliant undergraduates have been receiving scholarships every academic session.

The Global President, Hon. Onilede Solomon urged the beneficiaries to be focused, diligent and be determined to succeed academically. Hon. Onilede while thanking the selection committee and the donors for the success of the 2020/2021 edition of the scholarship scheme, encouraged the beneficiaries not to define themselves by their challenges, as everybody has a story to tell. He said any living person will have challenges and that no condition is permanent.

Hon. Onilede reiterated the Association’s supports and productive collaborations with the Oyo State Government, the Governing Council, the university management and the undergraduate students of the institution.

The university management appreciated the Hon. Onilede-led Alumni Association for sustaining the initiative and for using their good offices to better the lives of the upcoming generation.

Joining other dignitaries to commission the e-library were former presidents of the association, which include Engr. Festus Alawode, Prof. S.O Olabiyisi and Chief Jide Bewaji who is also the Chairman, LAUTECH Alumni Board of Trustees.

The global executives in attendance were Global Deputy President – Hon. Lekan Badmus; Global Secretary – Prof. Azeem Ige; Vice-President (North) – Mr Teki Alawiye; Vice-President (South) – Mr Teslim Akinkunmi; Vice President (Diaspora) – Mr Olusoji Bidemi Akinrinmade; Global Social Secretary – Dr Yetunde Yusuf; Global Internal Auditor – Mr. Eyitayo Mayowa; Global Public Relations Officer – Adeyemi Damilare; Global Financial Secretary – Mr Alabo Leye; Global Treasurer – Mr Tunde Oluwasinmirin; Global Welfare Secretary – Mr Shittu Olanrewaju; and Global Assistant Secretary – Mr Olugbenga Agboola. Also present were ex-officio, which include Mr. Babalola Obasanjo and Owolawi Jaleel.
