Lagos –Ibadan train service has started enjoying improved patronage as over 100 passengers boarded the bus to Ibadan on Friday.
The operation started on Monday with only 5 passengers but it has improved as at today when our reporter visits the station at Moniya in Ibadan.
The newly introduced service, according to the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), provides fully air-conditioned train services in the Economy, Business and First Class categories.
The corporation deployed only one Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) to kick-start the operation and it has the capacity to covey about 570 passengers.
Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi had announced a price regime of N3,000 for the Economy, N5,000 for the Business and N6,000 for First Class.
It was gathered that the improvement started today but it is expected to rise as event unfolds
Some of the passenger who spoke with our reporter said it was a smooth ride but there is need for the government to reduce the fare and build halt stations at locations like Ologuneru and Omi Adio which is not far from the town for easy access and more patronage.
From all indication, the major challenge that is being confronted now is getting a transport from the terminal at Moniya to their destinations.
