The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, will on Friday elevate nine chiefs in the Otun Olubadan line, including Governor Seyi Makinde’s elder brother, Olumuyiwa Makinde, and prominent businessman, Engineer Dotun Sanusi.

Makinde, an Ibadan-based lawyer, is set to move from Aare Onibon to Gbonka Olubadan, while Sanusi will be promoted from Ajia to Bada Olubadan.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Olubadan’s media aide, Adeola Oloko, who disclosed that the elevation ceremony will hold at 11 a.m. at the Oke-Aremo Palace in the Ibadan North Local Government Area. Members of the Olubadan-in-Council are expected to attend the event.

Oba Ladoja, who ascended the throne following the death of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on July 7, 2025, carried out his first official traditional duty on November 7, when he elevated five chiefs within the Olubadan hierarchy.

Those elevated at that time included Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole-Foko, now Otun Olubadan; Asipa Olubadan, Oba Kola Daisi, now Osi Olubadan; and Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Hamidu Ajibade, who became Asipa Olubadan. Others were Oba Muritala Akande, promoted from Ekarun to Ekerin Olubadan, and Chief Kola Babalola, who rose from Abese to Ekarun Olubadan.

According to Wednesday’s statement, House of Representatives member Akin Alabi is also listed for promotion from Jagun to Ajia Olubadan. However, promotions from Mogaji to the highly competitive Jagun title have been suspended until further notice.

  • Chief Oluyinka Akande, from Oota to Lagunna Olubadan;
  • Chief Olufemi Ogunwale, from Aare-Egbe Omo to Oota Olubadan;
  • Chief Wasiu Aderoju Alaadorin, from Gbonka to a higher position in the hierarchy.

The Friday event is expected to further consolidate the traditional administrative structure of Ibadanland under the leadership of Oba Ladoja.
