The Katsina State Government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of bandits, describing the development as a tragic loss to the state and the nation.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, the government said the retired military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension during his captivity.
According to the statement, despite sustained efforts by the Katsina State Government and security agencies to secure his freedom, the rescue mission could not prevent the unfortunate outcome.
“The deceased retired General died a natural death from complications of diabetes and hypertension,” the statement noted.
The government described the late General’s abduction and subsequent death as a monumental loss, not only to his immediate family and Katsina State but also to Nigeria as a whole.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved family and the nation.
The governor described the tragedy as a “dark moment” and stressed the need for a united and intensified effort to combat criminal activities threatening the peace and security of communities across the country.
He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to collaborating with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the crime are brought to justice.
Governor Radda also assured residents that the government’s determination to eradicate banditry and safeguard lives and property remains unwavering.
“Our resolve to eliminate banditry and ensure the safety of all residents remains unshaken,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
The Katsina State Government offered prayers for the repose of the late retired Major General’s soul and comfort for his family during this period of grief.
