Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has distanced himself from campaign posters circulating on social media portraying him as a presidential candidate under different political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, the party described the posters as fake and the handiwork of “mischief makers.”
The statement, signed by the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, clarified that Jonathan remains a registered member of the PDP under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.
According to the statement, the former president personally participated in the party’s recently concluded digital membership registration exercise in his ward and confirmed his membership status during a meeting with members of the Interim National Working Committee.
The PDP said the clarification became necessary because the Electoral Act prohibits and punishes double party registration.
The party also alleged that some individuals could attempt to fraudulently input Jonathan’s details and those of other prominent politicians into the databases of multiple political parties.
It urged the public and the Independent National Electoral Commission to disregard any fake posters or fraudulent political activities linked to the former president.
