The Department of Music Technology, Michael Adeniyi Koleosho Polytechnic, Saki, Oyo State, on Wednesday conducted its first final-year performance examination for its pioneer student, Master Okegbola Moses Bright.
The examination, which was held at the TETFund Building, School of Business and Communication Studies, attracted students, lecturers, and relatives of the pioneer student who thronged the venue to witness the historic event.
Presiding over the occasion was the Acting Head of Department, Dr. Abegunrin Adebayo Olugbenga. The student was assessed by two external examiners from The Polytechnic, Ibadan: Dr. Rotimi Ologududu and Dr. Abiodun Akere, both renowned scholars in Music Technology.
The Dean of the School of Business and Communication Studies, Mr. W.O. Popoola, and other senior staff of the institution were also present.
In his welcome address, Dr. Abegunrin described the event as “historic and epoch-making” for the department and the polytechnic.
“Today marks a milestone not just for our department, but for Michael Adeniyi Koleosho Polytechnic, Saki. We are gathered here to witness the stage performance of our very first student in the Department of Music Technology. This is the first of many, and it signals that the seed we planted has begun to bear fruit. We are proud,” he said.
The HOD explained that the performance examination is a key practical requirement for the award of the National Diploma (ND) certificate in Music Technology.
He added that the exercise demonstrates the skills, creativity, discipline, and training the student has acquired.
“It proves that Music Technology is not just about theory, but about performance, production, and impact. This pioneer is setting the standard for those coming after him,” Dr. Abegunrin stated.
He congratulated Master Okegbola for blazing the trail and urged him to perform with confidence, passion, and professionalism.
He also admonished students admitted after the pioneer to be diligent and creative, noting that the department is growing and their turn to showcase their talent will come.
Speaking on the department’s vision, Dr. Abegunrin said the goal is to make the Department of Music Technology a hub for sound production, live performance, music business, and digital creativity in Oyo State and beyond.
“We plan to expand our studio facilities, deepen industry partnerships, and produce graduates who will not only be employable, but who will create jobs and export Yoruba and Nigerian sounds to the world,” he said.
He appreciated the management of the polytechnic for its support and specially thanked the Dean, senior staff, and all stakeholders for believing in the vision of Music Technology.
