Glo Intensifies Nationwide Network Upgrade to Boost Service Quality

Telecommunications giant, Globacom, has unveiled a series of ongoing network expansion and upgrade projects aimed at significantly enhancing customer experience across Nigeria.

According to company officials, the initiatives are part of a strategic effort to deliver greater value to subscribers, particularly in light of the recent tariff adjustments approved by regulatory authorities.

As part of the upgrade, Globacom is deploying hundreds of new base stations to expand its network reach and densify coverage in areas experiencing rapid population growth. This, the company said, will ensure consistent and high-quality voice and data services nationwide.

Additionally, the telecom firm is undertaking a major relocation of its fibre infrastructure in several parts of the country where road construction activities have disrupted network performance. Affected routes include Auchi–Okene, Benin–Ekpoma, Lafia–Akwanga, Minna–Abuja, and Funtua–Gusau corridors.

“At great cost, we have commenced the relocation of fibre cables, many of which were vandalized during uncoordinated road construction, to restore and even improve service quality,” a company statement revealed.

The company also disclosed that it is nearing completion of the rollout of several hundred new sites, while thousands of 4G LTE sites have already been deployed in key cities. Additional LTE sites are currently under installation as part of efforts to scale up reliable high-speed internet access.

To complement these initiatives, Globacom has intensified upgrades of its backhaul infrastructure, including expanded microwave and fibre capacity, as well as improvements in its core network to ensure smoother connectivity and faster data transmission.

The telecom operator assured customers that these ongoing projects will translate into better service delivery, improved network reliability, faster data speeds, and wider coverage.

Looking ahead, Globacom plans to roll out over 1,000 new sites in the next 12 months, with a focus on enhancing LTE capacity and extending fibre connections to more hub locations for greater network stability.

In line with global sustainability trends, the company is also pushing forward with its green energy initiative by expanding the use of hybrid power solutions. This involves reducing reliance on diesel-powered generators and increasing the use of battery-based power systems at sites across the country—another move that comes with substantial investment.

However, the company expressed concern over the continued sabotage of telecom infrastructure despite its designation as critical national infrastructure, calling for more decisive action to curb vandalism and protect vital network assets.
