It was an unforgettable experience for tourists and nature lovers who gathered for the 7th edition of the Ekiti Mountain Safari, a yearly celebration of nature, tourism and community spirit. The adventure began with an invigorating trek—over an hour-long hike through a mist-covered trail—leading to the natural amphitheater atop the majestic Sagbonke Mountain, in Efon Alaaye-Ekiti.
Awaiting them at the summit was a spectacle of sights and sounds. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Ekiti’s mountainous landscape, visitors were treated to inspirational talks, vibrant cultural performances, music, dance, and food and wine.
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, graced the occasion alongside top government officials and tourism advocates. Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transforming Ekiti’s natural assets into world-class tourism destinations, Governor Oyebanji described Sagbonke Mountain as a “hidden treasure” that must not remain untapped.
“Tourism is a key pillar of economic development,” he stated. “Ekiti is richly blessed with natural attractions that, if properly harnessed, can generate significant revenue, create jobs, and position the state as a top destination for local and international tourists.”
Moved by the scenic beauty and potential of the mountain, the Governor directed key government stakeholders—including the Commissioners for Investment Trade, and Industry Mrs Ontario Adeola Commissioner Arts and Culture; Prof Rasaki OJo Bakare and the Director-General of the Bureau of Tourism Development— Amb Wale Ojo Lanre to develop a comprehensive investment plan for the site.

Traditional ruler of Efon Alaaye, Oba Emmanuel Adesanya Aladejare, who led other royal fathers and community members to the summit, expressed joy at hosting the iconic event. He hailed the Safari as a boost to the cultural pride and economic potential of the Efon kingdom.
The state Commissioner for Arts and Culture, Professor Rasaki Ojo Bakare, also lauded the initiative, noting that mountain hiking is a strategic tourism strength for the state. “Ekiti is blessed with numerous hills and scenic landscapes,” he said. “With the Governor’s involvement, we can expect an even more enriching experience next year.”
He also praised tourism advocate Wale Ojo Lanre for his resilience and leadership in driving tourism growth in the state. “With people like him championing this cause, Ekiti will truly become the destination people have been waiting for,” Professor Bakare added.
Speaking on the long-term vision, Wale Ojo Lanre emphasized the importance of a strong policy foundation for sustainable tourism. “We are developing a tourism policy and master plan. With a clear strategy, tourism will become one of the largest sources of revenue for Ekiti,” he said.
The event was as much a celebration as it was a strategic milestone. Guests dined on abundant servings of pounded yam, danced to traditional music, and enjoyed chilled drinks courtesy of Rites Foods, a major sponsor. Security officials, Red Cross officers, and medical personnel were on ground to ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees.
With the Governor’s renewed focus, community support, and private-sector involvement, the mountain Safari is fast becoming more than just a hike—it’s a symbol of the state’s bold tourism future.
