#Endbadgovernance: OCYF Holds Stakeholders’ Meeting Rejects Violent Protest in Ogbomoso

In a move to maintain peace and stability in the community, the Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum has announced the cancellation of the planned ‘End Bad Governance’ protest.

This decision was made after a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Police Area Commander, Owode, Ogbomoso, involving representatives from various security agencies and the traditional ruler, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, Soun of Ogbomosoland.

The meeting, which was attended both physically and virtually, emphasized the need to prioritize the love for the town and the country as the guiding principle. The traditional ruler also charged his subjects to focus their energies on the 25-year development plan model for the town.

1. Protest is recognized as a powerful tool to speak truth to the government and demand accountability, but it has often been hijacked by hoodlums, leading to violence, looting, and the loss of innocent lives, as witnessed during the EndSars protest in 2020.

2. Given the serious hardships facing Nigerians at this critical time, the community leaders have decided that there will be no form of protest in Ogbomoso, as they cannot afford to risk the lives of their promising youths or the disruption of trading activities in the town.

3. The community leaders have urged their people to step down the planned protest in the interest of peace and progress, and instead focus on the town’s 25-year development plan.

The decision was signed by the leaders of various organizations, including the Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum, the Federation of Ogbomoso Student Union, the National Youth Council of Nigeria, and the Oyo State Park Managers, as well as community leaders
