Saki-born retired military officer and businessman, Dr. Gbenga Adegbola, has declared his intention to run for governor of Oyo State in 2027 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that his ambition is driven by a deep passion to deliver more effective service and good governance to the people.

In an exclusive interview, Dr. Adegbola emphasized that while past administrations have made notable efforts, the state still faces challenges that require fresh strategies and stronger leadership.

“Oyo State deserves more. My ambition is not based on personal gain but on a genuine desire to improve the lives of our people through focused, disciplined, and inclusive leadership,” he said.

Adegbola, who retired after a meritorious military career, noted that his vision includes building an improved version of existing policies while introducing innovative programs that directly impact the economy, education, healthcare, security, and local governance.

According to him, his governorship blueprint reflects the needs and aspirations of every zone in the state. “From Ibadan to Oke Ogun, Ogbomoso to Ibarapa, and Oyo, we have studied the issues and developed a clear path to progress. What we are offering is not just promises, but implementable solutions,” he said.

He also spoke in favor of the agitation for power shift to Oke Ogun in 2027, describing it as a long-overdue call for fairness. “Our region has competent leaders. It is time to give Oke Ogun the opportunity to lead and show capacity,” he noted.

Dr. Adegbola disclosed that he is in talks with APC stakeholders across all senatorial districts to build consensus and secure the party’s ticket. If successful, he plans to immediately launch a reconciliation process among aspirants to present a united front ahead of the election.

“I believe a united APC can achieve a landslide victory in 2027. We just need to stay focused and work together for the future of our state,” he said.

With Governor Seyi Makinde’s second term expected to end in 2027, the race for succession is already gathering momentum, and Dr. Adegbola’s entry marks a significant move within the APC camp.

“My mission is simple: to serve, transform, and leave a legacy of good governance that generations after us will be proud of,” he said.
