Don’t Use Our Land for Ranching, Okolo, New Eruwa Residents Cry Out

Residents of Okolo,Adimo village ido local government of Oyo state have called on oyo state government to rescind its decision to acquire their land for herdsmen.

They alleged that notice of acquisition dated 8th june signed by the commissioner for land,housing and survey which is on an A4 paper without a logo of the office of oyo state government was pasted on the over 462 hectares of land.

In an interview with Journalist ,Baale,Okolo,Chief David Okanlawon said the community was aware of the state governments intention to create ranch for herdsmen in the area.

Chief Okanlawon cautioned the government not to bring dangers close to them and also noted that they were not ready to release their land.

Odofin of New Eruwa,Mr Fasina Olaoye decried the move by the state government to acquire the land in a forceful manner.

Also,president Bimbo Olaniyan Eruwa Youth Movement said the youths would not open their eyes to see their future mortgaded

Some of the occupants who told our reporter that the hectares of land were for both agricultural and residential use maintained that if acquired,will render them jobless and leave many displaced.

Attempt to contact the commissioner for lands and survey ,Mr Isaac omodewu who signed the letter as at the time of filling this report was futile as he was not picking his telephone calls

When contacted, Oyo state Commissioner for information culture and tourism mr Toye Arulogun said he was yet to be briefed on the matter.

Meanwhile, information on the two paged notice of acquisition did not state whether the land is to be allocated to herdsmen
