Students of the Department of Wildlife and Ecotourism at the University of Ibadan are set to benefit from practical opportunities in Nigeria’s growing domestic tourism sector following the introduction of the Oyo State Business of Domestic Tourism Promotion and Empowerment Programme and the Nigeria Domestic Tourism Club.
The initiative was unveiled during a visit by tourism stakeholders led by Ibitayo Araoye the Chief Executive officer Capricorn Concierge Tourism Services, to the department, where discussions centered on youth empowerment, tourism development and creating sustainable opportunities for students within the domestic tourism value chain.
Speaking during the engagement, Araoye explained that the programme is designed to give students hands-on exposure to Nigeria’s tourism industry, enable them to contribute meaningfully to domestic tourism development and also earn responsibly while still pursuing their academic studies.
They noted that the initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to reposition tourism as a viable tool for economic growth, youth engagement and cultural promotion across the country.
The team expressed appreciation to the Head of Department and the management of the Department of Wildlife and Ecotourism for embracing the initiative and supporting efforts aimed at empowering young people through tourism-related opportunities.
The programme is powered by
Capricorn Concierge Tourism Services Ltd in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy.
It is also being implemented in partnership with the Oyo State Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as part of broader efforts to strengthen domestic tourism participation among youths in Oyo State and beyond.
