Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli has emerged winner of Thursday’s All Progressives Congress governorship primary in Oyo State, polling 91,824 votes to defeat nine other aspirants, according to official figures obtained by this newspaper.

The result, confirmed by a senior party official in the office of the APC National Organising Secretary, puts former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu in second place with 7,532 votes. Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, representing Oyo North, came third with 6,963 votes.

Akeem Agbaje followed with 1,475 votes, while former Deputy Governor Rauf Remi Olaniyan polled 992 votes. Adewale Kolapo Kareem, who stepped down for Alli before the vote, scored 990 votes. The remaining aspirants – Hakeem Alao, Ololade Usman Bakare, Wasiu Ayobami Lam-Adesina and Muyiwa Gbadegesin recorded 170, 15, 10 and 7 votes respectively.

The party official said the full state-by-state results would be formally released by the national secretariat from Monday.

The verified figures contradict viral tallies circulating on social media that credited Alli with 578,143 votes, Buhari with 37,265 and Adelabu with 19,193.

Those numbers are mathematically impossible, the official noted, pointing out that APC has 157,266 registered members in Oyo State, out of which 109,978 participated in the primary.

APC State Publicity Secretary Wasiu Sadare had earlier dismissed the viral figures as “unauthorised and misleading.”

He urged members and the public to rely only on information released through official party channels.

It would be recalled that the party has repeatedly warned against the spread of unverified results that mislead the public and create unnecessary tension, stressing that the national secretariat would collate and make the final results public.

With the primary concluded, attention now shifts to how the party consolidates ahead of the 2027 general election.

Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who currently represents Oyo South in the Senate, is expected to begin statewide consultations this week.
