The newly appointed Chancellor of Osun State University and Group Managing Director of BOVAS Group, Mrs Victoria Samson, has pledged to support the continued growth and development of the institution.
Samson made the pledge on Thursday in Ibadan while receiving the instrument of appointment officially confirming her position as Chancellor of the university.
The appointment letter was presented by the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Odunayo Adebooye, on behalf of the Osun State Government and the university’s Governing Council.
Expressing appreciation for the appointment, Samson described it as a great honour and thanked the state government, governing council and management of the university for the confidence reposed in her.
“I thank the governor, the governing council and the university management for this honour. I appreciate the confidence reposed in me,” she said.
She assured the university community of her commitment to supporting the institution’s vision and advancement.
Speaking earlier, Adebooye said the appointment reflected Samson’s achievements in business leadership, philanthropy and national development.
According to him, the appointment had continued to attract widespread attention within and outside Nigeria, describing it as a significant development for the university.
“The institution and the state government are optimistic that Mama Samson’s leadership and experience would further strengthen the university’s global relevance and academic advancement,” he said.
The vice-chancellor also commended Gov. Ademola Adeleke for allowing merit and competence to guide appointments within the institution and the state.
He noted that the governor had consistently encouraged the university management to appoint individuals capable of contributing meaningfully to the institution’s growth without political interference.
Reading the appointment letter signed by Adeleke, Adebooye disclosed that Samson’s appointment took effect from May 10, 2026, for an initial term of five years.
The letter stated that the appointment was in recognition of her accomplishments in business leadership, service to humanity and contributions to national development.
It added that, as Chancellor, she would serve as the ceremonial head of the university and provide moral, strategic and inspirational support toward achieving the institution’s vision.
Adebooye further disclosed that the university would soon announce the date for Samson’s formal investiture as Chancellor.
Samson received the university delegation alongside Mr Temitope Samson, an engineer and Deputy Group Managing Director of BOVAS Group, as well as other principal officers of the company.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Adetunji Kehinde; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Moruf Olayiwola; and Registrar, Mrs Atinuke Oguntunde.
