The new hall, named after Archbishop Gabriel ‘Leke Abegurin, the Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan Archdiocese, was built following the collapse of the previous structure due to age. Archbishop Abegurin led the Mass for the Blessing and Commissioning of the Hall, with Bishop Emmanuel Badejo, Rev. Fr. Martin Badejo, and Rev. Fr. Anthony Fasola also in attendance.

Honoring the Church’s Impact

Speaking at the event, Alhaji Raji, who was accompanied by prominent Muslim associates, highlighted his reasons for supporting the Church. He praised its tradition of humble service, societal development, and unwavering commitment to humanity, particularly in the Iseyin community.

Raji, who in 2022 donated a state-of-the-art operating theatre to Our Lady Catholic Hospital, Iseyin, described the hospital as a beacon of grassroots healthcare. He lauded the Church’s medical and educational contributions, emphasizing its inclusivity and dedication to serving all, regardless of faith.

“The Church preaches the Gospel with all she possesses, saving lives and helping many through her institutions,” he said. “In my experience, the Church at the grassroots does not discriminate against anyone.”

Call to Action

Raji urged Catholic youths to remain steadfast in their faith and resist the “japa” trend, which he described as detrimental to grassroots development. He encouraged them to appreciate their heritage, contribute positively to society, and spread goodwill.

Interfaith Collaboration

In his homily, Bishop Emmanuel Badejo praised Raji’s commitment to interfaith relations and his contributions to the Catholic Church. He described Raji’s gestures as a testament to the Church’s dedication to integral human development and solidarity.

“The generosity of Barrister Raji reflects the Church’s mission of fostering unity and the common good,” Bishop Badejo said. He called on everyone to prioritize the welfare of their neighbors, regardless of race, creed, or status.

Archbishop Abegurin, who received the keys to the new hall, expressed gratitude for the honor. He thanked Alhaji Raji, the Diocese of Oyo, and the Iseyin Catholic community for their efforts in enhancing the Church’s mission.

The event underscored the importance of collaboration across faiths for societal development and the promotion of shared values.
