The Alaafin of Oyo, Iku Baba Yeye, Oba (Engr.) Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has expressed his condolences to the family of the late Chief Ayo Adebanjo, a leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere.
Pa Ayo Adebanjo passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the age of 96.
In a statement issued by his Chief of Staff, Rotimi Osuntola, the Alaafin described Chief Adebanjo as a dedicated politician, Yoruba nationalist, and distinguished lawyer who spent his life advocating for equity and justice.
“Chief Adebanjo was a visionary leader and a foremost nationalist who left an indelible mark in the history of Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole,” the statement read.
The Alaafin prayed for the repose of the elder statesman’s soul and asked for divine strength for his family during this period of mourning.
