The sad news of the passing of two iconic figures ,Chief Yekini Adeojo and Dr. Omololu Olunloyo has cast a heavy cloud over Oyo State and indeed, Nigeria as a whole.

These elder statesmen were not just political leaders; they were institutions whose lives were defined by selfless service, wisdom, and a burning passion for the progress of their people.

Hon. Olusegun Odebunmi (Bunvic), the newly appointed Chairman of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority (OORBD) and former Chairman of the House Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics, and Values in the 9th Assembly, expressed deep sorrow at the loss.

He described the deaths as “a monumental loss to our political heritage and collective memory.”

“On behalf of the good people of Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency and the entire Ogbomoso zone, I mourn the painful departure of our two great fathers of Oyo State ,Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a renowned scholar, statesman, and former governor, and Chief Yekini Adeojo, a grassroots mobilizer, seasoned politician, and community builder.”

Dr. Olunloyo was not only a mathematician of global repute, but also a principled leader who combined intellect with vision during his short but impactful tenure as governor.

Chief Adeojo, on the other hand, was a father figure to many ,a man whose voice commanded respect and whose footsteps in the political space helped shape the trajectory of Oyo State’s development.

“These were men who never abandoned the people. Their doors were open to the high and low alike, and their counsel was sought at critical moments in our state’s political evolution. We have truly lost legends.”

Odebunmi, who represented Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency in the 7th, 8th, and 9th Assembly, prayed that God grants their families, friends, and the entire people of Oyo State the fortitude to bear these irreparable losses. “May their souls find eternal peace, and may their legacies continue to inspire generations of leaders yet to come.”
