Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo and Sustainable Livelihoods and Development Network for Africa (SLIDEN AFRICA) have partnered to host the 9th National Conference which focuses on which will focus on tackling food waste, achieving zero hunger, and promoting sustainable food systems.

ACU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Adebayo, announced this after a meeting with the event’s organising committee, led by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at ACU, Dr. Moses Adebayo, on Tuesday.

The VC, who was represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Muyiwa Popoola, at the meeting, said the event will take place from April 7th to 11th, 2025, at the Folorunso and Modupe Alakija Law Auditorium. He added that the keynote address to be delivered by Prof. John Derera of the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan.

The VC said the conference would address various issues, including the application of science and technology to sustainable food systems, food waste management, community social responsibility, and farming practices.

“This conference is a significant step towards realising our university’s mission. It underlines our commitment to becoming a leading institution in agricultural research and education.

“We aim to explore agriculture’s front role in supporting both our economy and communities and our population, especially in relation to challenges like climate change, population growth, and resource management. We’ll focus on solutions that ensure safe, nutritious, and sufficient food availability for all,” said the VC.

He added that the conference would bring together agricultural experts and stakeholders to discuss innovative technologies and solutions for food security.

Dr. Moses Adebayo, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at ACU, praised the Vice-Chancellor for his support to ensure the success of the conference.

“This conference will cover a wide range of topics, from academic research to practical farming solutions. Experts, policymakers, and farmers will come together to address food waste, sustainable production, and hunger reduction, not only in Nigeria but globally,” he said, while also saying that that ACU’s Seed Company, established by the Vice-Chancellor, is already collaborating with several farmers and experts in the field.
