The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the successful rescue of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, who were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The victims were rescued during a coordinated operation by the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, Mrs. Adegoke and her children were kidnapped on June 3 while she was driving the twins to school in Ibadan.
The police said the rescue followed sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance and tactical operations that enabled operatives to track the kidnappers and engage them in a confrontation.
During the operation, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while two rifles were recovered. The victims were rescued unharmed and are currently receiving medical care and support in safe custody.
Reacting to the development, Media Aide to Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Comrade Femi Awogboro, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State had informed the family that the abducted victims had been rescued safely.
“The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State has confirmed that the abducted victims have been rescued and are safe, healthy, and unharmed,” Awogboro stated.
He expressed gratitude to the police, other security agencies, the media, political associates and all stakeholders who supported efforts towards securing the victims’ freedom.
“We express our sincere appreciation to the Police and other security agencies, the media, political associates, and all stakeholders for their concern, support, and efforts during this period,” he said, adding that further details would be provided as they become available.
The Inspector-General of Police also commended the courage, professionalism and effectiveness of the FID-IRT operatives and all officers involved in the operation, describing their efforts as instrumental to the successful rescue.
Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation. Preliminary intelligence indicates that some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot injuries.
The police assured the public that ongoing operations are aimed at tracking down and bringing all those connected with the abduction to justice.
