The House of Representatives has announced minor changes to the leadership of some of its Standing Committees following the recent reconstitution of the Minority Caucus leadership.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, announced the adjustments as part of efforts to strengthen legislative oversight, accountability and effective parliamentary administration.
Under the new arrangement, Rep. Aliyu Sani Madaki (APC, Kano) has been appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Special Duties, replacing Rep. Fred Agbedi (PDP, Bayelsa), who recently emerged as the House Minority Leader.
Similarly, Rep. Ali Isa J.C. (ADC, Gombe) was named Chairman of the House Committee on Shipping Services, taking over from Rep. Abdussamad Dasuki (ADC, Sokoto), who now serves as the House Deputy Minority Leader.
The reshuffle also affected the House Committee on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), with Rep. Paschal Agbodike (APGA, Anambra) redeployed from the House Committee on Hydrological Services/HYPADEC to head the committee.
Agbodike succeeds Rep. Mansur Manu Soro (APM, Bauchi), who was recently appointed House Minority Whip.
Consequently, Rep. Kelechi Nwogu (PDP, Rivers) has been appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Hydrological Services/HYPADEC.
The House said the changes were necessitated by the emergence of new Minority Caucus leaders and are aimed at ensuring continuity in committee operations and effective discharge of legislative responsibilities.
According to the House leadership, the adjustments reflect its commitment to maintaining efficient committee leadership, strengthening institutional oversight and promoting effective parliamentary governance in the interest of Nigerians.
