The Polytechnic Ibadan on Thursday showcased the mechanical ventilator and smart hand washing machines produced by the department of Mechatronic.
Both the ventilator and hand washing machine which housed a dryer were among the new innovations of the department which has just been given full accreditation to run Higher National Diploma Program.
The institution had earlier manufactured hand sanitizer and face mask which they donated to Oyo state government in support of the fight against COVID -19
Speaking on the development, the Institution’s Rector, Professor Kazeem Adebiyi informed that the projects were initiated and executed by students and lecturers of the Mechatronic Department
According to Professor Adebiyi, “ The support from the state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde enhances the manufacturing of the machines and other projects which had earned the school full accreditation of some courses denied for over 10 years
“ The last time the school got special grant for accreditation and projects was in 2009 or there about but we approached Governor Seyi Makinde and he gave us two hundred million naira (N200, 000,000) which we used to procure some of the equipment needed for accreditation in some departments and renovated some buildings”.
The Rector, however urged both the federal and state governments to always patronize local content which according to him will enhance creativity and encourage researchers.
Speaking on the innovation, the Head of Department, Mechatronic, Engineer Olaiya Kamorudeen said the projects were carried out by a research team of teachers and students of the department
“We are being encouraged to carry out these projects by the availability of funds and materials from the management”.
