The Ibadan Christ Apostolic Grammar School Old Boys Association (ICAGSOBA) on Thursday, September 24, 2026, held the fifth edition of its Annual Prize-Giving Day at Ibadan Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Aperin Oniyere, Ibadan, rewarding outstanding students with scholarships, cash prizes, textbooks and other educational support worth over ₦3 million.
Now in its fifth year, the annual programme has become one of ICAGSOBA’s major educational interventions, aimed at promoting academic excellence, rewarding hard work and inspiring students to strive for greater achievements.
The event brought together alumni, school management, teachers, parents, students, donors and other well-wishers to celebrate learning and academic excellence.
Students who distinguished themselves in English Language, Mathematics, Literature, Financial Accounting and several other subjects received awards donated by members of the association in Nigeria and the diaspora.
Outstanding prefects and other deserving students were also recognised for their leadership qualities and academic performance.
Delivering his opening remarks, the President of ICAGSOBA, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to the growth and development of its alma mater.
He said, “Over the past five years, ICAGSOBA has remained committed to restoring and sustaining a culture of academic excellence in our great alma mater.”
He further stated, “The vision of the association is to make I.C.A.G.S. a beacon of excellence and a school that every old student will always be proud to call home.”
Dr. Thomas explained that the association’s commitment goes beyond organising an annual prize-giving ceremony. He noted that ICAGSOBA is currently sponsoring the university education of outstanding students through its scholarship programme.
He added that the association remains determined to sustain and expand the initiative to enable more brilliant but financially challenged students to benefit.
In his address, the Chairman of the Prize-Giving Day Planning Committee and President of the Restanchor Total Child Parenting Foundation, Pastor Prince Leye Adefioye, called on parents, teachers, alumni and society at large to work together in raising responsible children.
According to him, “Education must go beyond academic excellence to nurturing character, protecting our children, and securing the future of Nigeria through the collective support of parents, teachers, alumni, and society.”
He encouraged students to remain disciplined, focused and committed to their studies, reminding them that excellence is built through consistency, good character and determination.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of a brand-new laptop to Adeniyi Emmanuel Oluwadamilare, who emerged as the overall best student in the school’s last West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination.
The presentation attracted loud applause from students, teachers and guests, serving as a symbol of the association’s appreciation for exceptional academic achievement.
Some teachers were also recognised for their outstanding contributions to students’ academic success, while special donations from notable alumni further enriched the awards presented during the ceremony.
In a statement released by the Secretary of the Prize-Giving Day Planning Committee and Assistant General Secretary of ICAGSOBA, Mr. Rotimi Obe, he disclosed that about 80 students across different classes received awards during the programme.
He added that 25 final-year students were awarded WAEC scholarships to support their participation in the forthcoming May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Obe described the scholarship initiative as part of ICAGSOBA’s continued investment in the future of the students.
The event ended with expressions of appreciation to donors and supporters whose generous contributions made the programme possible.
ICAGSOBA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the Prize-Giving Day and other educational initiatives aimed at inspiring excellence, rewarding hard work and securing a brighter future for students of Ibadan Christ Apostolic Grammar School.
