A former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu has emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC for the next election in the state.
Adelabu won the APC guber ticket in the process widely believed to be a consensus arrangement amongst the aspirants of the party at Lekan Salam Stadium, Adamashingba, Ibadan as other aspirants including Niyi Akintola SAN ,Joseph Tegbe, Dr Olusola Ayandele, Dr. Isaac Owolabi stepped down
His choice by Governor Abiola Ajimobi came as a surprise to many promoters of the party against the presumed anointed Engineer Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe who was believed to have been favoured to fly the flag of the APC in the coming gubernatorial poll.
The primary election which was determined by 5,203 delegates gave the victory to Adelabu with 4,889 distantly trailed by the immediate former governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala with 65 while Dr. Azeez Popoola Adeduntan who backed out in the process got 7 votes.
The carnival-like gathering of big shots of the APC across the 33 local government areas of the state was enlivened by different elected, appointed political office holders and teeming supporters of aspirants into various posts in the forthcoming general elections
