The Oyo State Command of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has deployed 2,500 personnel to parts of the state to ensure peace and security during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Its Public Relation Officer, Mr Oluwole Olusegun, announced this in a statement in Ibadan on Thursday.
Olusegun said the state Commandant, Mr John Adewoye, had also directed corps divisional officers to beef up security across the state during the period.
Adewoye said that armed, unarmed and covert officers of the corps would be on duty during the celebration and urged divisional officers to brace up for challenges that could arise across the state during the celebration.
“We have intensified surveillance and patrol of critical infrastructure, flash spots, shopping malls, recreation centres and NNPC right of ways to forestall criminality and make the state crime-free before, during and after the Eid-el kabir celebration.
“I enjoin Nigerians to be law abiding during the festival, imbibe and practice the lessons of faith, love and unity which is imperative to us as a nation to ensuring peace, harmony and stability,’’ he said.
Adewoye urged parents and guardians to monitor movements of their wards who could be tempted to take to thuggery, especially now that the country is preparing ahead of the 2019 general elections.
