A former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Surv. TPL (Hon.) Peter O. Oyetunji, PhD, has resigned his membership of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Oyetunji announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the Chairman of APM in Surulere Local Government Area, through the state chairman of the party.
In the letter, the former lawmaker said his decision followed careful reflection and consultations, adding that he could no longer remain in the party after years of what he described as fruitless efforts.
He accused the party of failing to fulfil promises made to its members and the people, alleging that the situation had resulted in a loss of confidence and credibility.
Oyetunji also expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as the absence of meaningful, people-oriented development projects in Surulere Local Government Area, alleging that the area had suffered neglect despite the loyalty and support of its residents for the party.
The former lawmaker further criticised the party’s leadership style, alleging arrogance, deceit and disregard for internal democracy, transparency and the welfare of members.
He also alleged that loyal and outspoken members who demanded accountability and progress had been subjected to deliberate victimisation and political persecution.
According to him, these concerns made it difficult for him to continue associating with the party in good conscience.
Oyetunji consequently requested that his resignation be formally acknowledged and that his name be removed from the party’s membership registers at the ward, local government and state levels.
Despite his decision to leave the party, he expressed appreciation for the opportunity to have associated with other members during his time in the APM and wished the party well in its future endeavours.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no response from the APM leadership to the allegations raised by the former lawmaker.
