The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State has dissociated itself from the reported attack on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing allegations linking the party to the incident as unfounded.
The Presidential Coordinator and Director-General of the Oyo State APM Governorship Campaign Council, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, stated this in a statement issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, in response to allegations reportedly made by the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation.
Adeniran urged the APC to address its internal challenges rather than implicate other political parties in incidents with which they had no connection.
He said the APC had been grappling with internal crises that could undermine public confidence in the party, urging its leadership to resolve its differences and strengthen its political structure.
The APM chieftain also alleged that the APC had assembled a faction of the proscribed National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to support its political activities, insisting that the APM should not be blamed for incidents involving such groups.
He, however, called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the reported attack, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable was arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Adeniran described the APM as a law-abiding political party committed to democratic principles and peaceful political engagement, adding that its campaign ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election would be issue-based and focused on presenting credible alternatives to the electorate.
“Our campaign will be driven by ideas, policies and practical solutions to the challenges confronting the people of Oyo State. We have no interest in political violence, intimidation or any activity capable of threatening public peace,” he said.
He added that political contests should be determined by the quality of ideas, the credibility of candidates and the confidence of the electorate rather than violence or the activities of street-level political groups.
The APM governorship campaign director-general urged political parties and their supporters to exercise restraint, respect the rule of law and refrain from making allegations without verifiable evidence.
He stressed that all political stakeholders had a responsibility to maintain peace and prevent activities capable of threatening public order in the state.
Adeniran reaffirmed the party’s commitment to a peaceful, transparent and issue-driven campaign, noting that the welfare, security and development of Oyo State residents would remain central to its political engagement.
