The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) Deputy Governorship candidate in Oyo State, Engr. Muftau Open Salawu, FNSE, has embarked on a day-long engagement with key stakeholders and groups across Ogbomoso, as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Salawu, the Babalaje of Ogbomosoland, held meetings with the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ogbomoso Zone, as well as the Chief Imams of Ogbomoso, Ikoyi-Ile and Surulere.
He also engaged representatives of youth organisations, including the National Youth Council of Nigeria and the National Youth Congress, alongside the Are Alaasa, physically challenged community, market associations under ATAO, students, artisans and other community stakeholders.
The engagements, which reportedly lasted from 9am to 9pm, took the APM deputy governorship candidate to different sections of the city, providing an opportunity for stakeholders to express their views on the political and socio-economic future of Ogbomoso and Oyo State.
As part of the programme, Salawu visited the Aare Alasa and Alapa Compound and also paid a visit to his family house.
A brief walk through Saja further provided an opportunity for the APM candidate to interact directly with residents, supporters and other members of the community.
Speaking on the engagements, Salawu said the meetings reinforced his belief that the people were increasingly interested in a new political direction for Oyo State.
He described the extensive interactions as meaningful and encouraging, noting that the support and enthusiasm shown by various groups demonstrated the importance of grassroots participation in the political process.
“9AM to 9PM — a day of meaningful engagement in Ogbomoso,” Salawu stated.
He added that the engagements, from the visually impaired association to faith leaders, students, youths and artisans, reflected a growing desire among the people for change.
Salawu reaffirmed his commitment to the APM, declaring that the party remained his political platform, while Bimbo Adekanmbi is the party’s candidate for Governor of Oyo State.
“APM is our party. Bimbo Adekanmbi is our candidate for Governor of Oyo State. Together, we move. Together, we win,” he said.
The engagements are coming as political activities intensify across Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections, with political parties and candidates increasingly turning their attention to grassroots consultations and mobilisation.
