The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Adeola, in a condolence message to the family of the deceased signed by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, and made available to journalists on Sunday, described Ogogo’s death as a monumental loss to Nigeria’s creative and entertainment industry.
The senator said the late actor’s death was not only a loss to his immediate family but also to Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole, noting his contributions to the development of the entertainment industry and advocacy for a better society.
“I am greatly saddened by the death of a brother who believed and worked assiduously for my cause and the cause of our people. I sympathise with his immediate family for their efforts and struggles to keep the dearly departed alive following his illness. God knows best in all circumstances,” Adeola said.
He said Ogogo’s contributions through filmmaking, public advocacy and other positive engagements would remain memorable, adding that the veteran actor left behind a legacy worthy of emulation.
Adeola also pledged his continued support for the deceased’s immediate family during the difficult period, assuring them that the good deeds and contributions of their patriarch would not be forgotten.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Ogogo’s soul and asked God to grant his family, friends, colleagues and admirers the strength to bear the loss.
News of Ogogo’s death was confirmed by multiple sources, including the founder of Best of Nollywood, Seun Oloketuyi, who announced the actor’s passing in a social media post.
Ogogo’s daughter, Kaira Taiwo, was also seen mourning her father during an Instagram live session on Sunday, where she expressed disbelief over his death. Fellow actor and filmmaker, Saheed Balogun, equally paid tribute to the late thespian, describing his death as painful.
The death came days after Ogogo’s daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, appealed for medical assistance for their father, who had reportedly been battling stage-four cancer.
On Monday, August 17, 2026, the sisters took to social media to seek medical advice and assistance, disclosing that doctors had informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his condition. The family subsequently explored other treatment options, including specialised medical procedures and traditional remedies.
Ogogo was a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry and one of the respected actors in Yoruba-language cinema, where he made significant contributions over several decades.
