The governor made this known in his Newsletter 141 for June 2026, titled “Security, Service and Progress,” where he also provided updates on the security situation in the state and ongoing efforts to rescue abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area.

Makinde said additional technical procedures required before the aircraft’s handover had extended the anticipated delivery beyond the initially projected June date. He explained that the final processes were necessary to ensure that all operational, regulatory and safety requirements were fully met before the aircraft enters service.

According to him, although the delivery schedule has been slightly adjusted, the aircraft will be ready for immediate operational deployment once commissioned.

The governor said the surveillance aircraft would significantly enhance Oyo State’s capacity for aerial surveillance, rapid emergency response and wider security operations, while also supporting other critical government functions.

He assured residents that his administration would continue to provide updates as the delivery process progresses.

On the security situation in Oriire Local Government Area, Makinde said security agencies were sustaining coordinated operations aimed at securing the safe return of the abducted children and teachers, with the state government providing the necessary support.

He noted that the temporary 16-hour curfew imposed on 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park was intended to strengthen security operations and create the conditions required for the rescue efforts to continue effectively.

The governor also disclosed that preparations were underway for the safe reopening of schools, stressing that while education remained a priority, every decision would continue to balance learning with the safety of pupils, teachers and their communities.

Makinde reiterated that despite the prevailing security challenges, his administration would continue to strengthen the systems, infrastructure and institutions needed to improve the lives of residents through investments in public safety, education and critical infrastructure.

He thanked the people of Oyo State for their continued cooperation, resilience and support, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to building a safer, stronger and more prosperous state.
