The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of allegedly bribing some of its candidates to defect, describing their departure as “good riddance to bad rubbish.”
The party alleged that the APC had resorted to offering money, political appointments and other material incentives to induce some of its candidates to abandon the party for the ruling party.
The NDC made the allegations in a press statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, in Abuja.
The party described the defectors as individuals lacking the values, virtues and ideological commitment associated with the NDC, insisting that they were never genuinely committed to its principles.
“To them, we say good riddance to bad rubbish, and we wish them luck in their political misadventures,” the statement read.
The NDC also announced plans to conduct fresh party congresses to elect replacement candidates in the affected constituencies.
According to the party, the exercise would be conducted in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, to produce candidates it described as credible, competent and trustworthy.
The party urged its members, supporters and Nigerians not to be discouraged by what it described as the ruling party’s alleged attempts to weaken its ranks through inducements.
It further expressed confidence that the APC would suffer defeat, describing the alleged defections as “the last kicks of a dying horse.”
Reaffirming its commitment to its political mission, the NDC said it remained determined to rescue Nigeria from what it called the grip of political buccaneers and provide Nigerians with good governance, security and prosperity.
The statement concluded with the party’s declaration: “A New Nigeria is possible. We can do it!”
