Ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in Oyo State, a grassroots politician and youth advocate, Ebenezer Olapade, has declared his intention to contest for the chairmanship position of Ibadan North West Local Government under the platform of the Allied People’s Movement (APM).
Olapade made his declaration during the party’s general meeting held at Oba Abass Aleshinloye Grammar School, Eleyele, Ibadan, where members and stakeholders gathered to deliberate on strategies and preparations for the upcoming council polls.
Speaking at the meeting, the chairmanship aspirant said his ambition is driven by a commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to residents through practical and people-centred programmes aimed at addressing critical challenges facing communities within the local government.
He identified education, security and youth empowerment through skills acquisition programmes as key priorities of his proposed administration, adding that efforts would also be directed at improving access to basic services and strengthening community engagement.
According to him, his over two decades of political experience have equipped him with the capacity to provide effective leadership at the grassroots level.
“I have been involved in active politics for over 22 years, beginning with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and I have participated in every election since 2003. I joined the APM in support of Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential ambition and other party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
Olapade stressed the need for greater youth participation in governance, noting that it was time for young people to take up leadership responsibilities at the Onireke Council Secretariat.
“As a youth, I believe the time has come for young people to assume leadership positions in Ibadan North West Local Government. This will further promote youth inclusion in governance, in line with Governor Makinde’s commitment to empowering young people,” he added.
The aspirant also commended Governor Seyi Makinde and the current administration of Ibadan North West Local Government for their efforts in promoting good governance and sustainable development across the state.
He appealed to party members and stakeholders to support his aspiration, expressing confidence that the APM would emerge victorious in the election and deliver impactful leadership at the grassroots.
Party leaders at the meeting described Olapade as a loyal and committed member who has consistently contributed to the growth of the party, affirming that he remains a credible contender for the party’s chairmanship ticket.
