The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has called for a “reset” of Nigeria, urging citizens to use the 2027 general elections to demand improved leadership and governance.
The party made the call in an Independence Day statement issued on Thursday by its National Chairman, Dr Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, as Nigeria marked its 66th anniversary of independence.
The APM commended Nigeria’s founding fathers for securing independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, while acknowledging the political, economic and social challenges the country has faced over the decades.
The party said Nigerians had demonstrated resilience and faith in the country despite what it described as “enormous hardship” arising from poor leadership amid Nigeria’s abundant human and natural resources.
According to the statement, citizens deserve the dividends of democracy and effective governance, declaring that the APM was “on a rescue mission” to redirect the country towards progress, development and advancement.
The party said the 2027 general election presented Nigerians with an opportunity to choose leaders committed to putting the country first, while calling for credible and transparent elections and respect for the will of voters.
The APM specifically urged Nigerians to support its presidential ticket of Makinde/Daura and other candidates fielded by the party in the 2027 elections.
It said: “It is time to reset Nigeria. It is time for a national rebirth and a greater future for all citizens.”
The party also called for greater national unity, peace and development, expressing optimism that a collective commitment to rebuilding the country would help Nigeria achieve its potential.
The APM concluded by congratulating Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary and urging citizens to remain united in pursuit of a more prosperous nation.
