Member representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, has announced that he will not seek re-election in the 2027 general elections, saying his decision is a deliberate sacrifice to give younger Nigerians a chance to serve.
In a heartfelt statement released on Sunday, Dasuki, a 47-year-old politician, economist, and businessman, said the choice was inspired by his belief in intergenerational justice and the urgent need to allow younger Nigerians to take leadership roles.
Dasuki, who has served at various levels of government — as a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Commissioner for Finance (2019–2023), and now a federal lawmaker — described his decision as one rooted in conviction, not fatigue or disillusionment.
“After due consultation with my team, our leader, my family, and most importantly, my conscience, I have decided not to seek reelection to the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election,” he said.
“This decision is not born out of fatigue, nor is it born out of disillusionment. It is borne out of a higher calling — one that transcends ambition or position. It is a personal sacrifice, a deliberate response to the noble call sounded by a project I helped birth — The Future is Now Project.”
Dasuki recalled that on October 1, 2025, during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, the Future Is Now Project was unveiled in Abuja as a platform advocating for youth inclusion in governance. A key resolution from the event, he noted, was to ensure that at least 70% of seats in the House of Representatives are occupied by Nigerians under the age of 40 in the next election cycle.
Acknowledging that he has surpassed that age mark, Dasuki said it would be hypocritical to ignore the message he helped to promote.
“If we are to inspire the trust and belief of the generation coming after us, we must be willing to sacrifice, pay a heavy price, and bear a burden,” he said.
“This, my dear constituents, is that sacrifice. And so, I choose to make space for the vision we proclaimed.”
The lawmaker expressed deep appreciation to his political mentor and former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, for his guidance and trust over the years.
“He saw potential in a young man, supported my political aspirations, and gave me the opportunity to serve in his cabinet. I am forever grateful to him,” Dasuki said.
He also thanked his constituents for their steadfast support and urged Nigerian youths to seize the moment and lead with integrity and vision.
“To the youth of this constituency, Sokoto State and Nigeria: The time is now! No more waiting. No more excuses. Take your place. Stand tall. Lead with courage, with integrity, with vision,” he declared.
Dasuki reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education, youth and women empowerment, and community development in Sokoto State and beyond, pledging to continue serving in any capacity that advances the common good.
“As I step aside, I wish to bequeath a new legacy in Nigeria’s political history — one that showcases leaders who know when to exit, paving the way for a fresher generation,” he concluded.
Dasuki’s decision marks a rare example in Nigeria’s political landscape, where many officeholders often seek continuous re-election. His announcement has been received as a symbolic move in support of youth inclusion and leadership renewal.
