Ward Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State have declared their unwavering support for Governor ‘Seyi Makinde ahead of the 2027 general elections, affirming their readiness to follow his political direction.
Operating under the aegis of the Forum of Oyo State PDP Ward Chairmen, the group made this known in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Chief Olawale Alawe; Secretary, Mr. Akeem Adebayo; and Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Fatai Adelakun.
The Forum said it passed a vote of confidence on the governor in recognition of his outstanding performance and his redefinition of good governance in the state and the nation at large.
According to the Forum, Governor Makinde’s track record of achievements across sectors has earned him the trust and loyalty of the Ward Chairmen, who have resolved to back whatever political decision he makes ahead of the next election cycle.
Highlighting some of the governor’s accomplishments, the Forum noted that he has significantly transformed the state’s economy through massive infrastructure projects and agribusiness initiatives. It particularly praised the completion of over 540 kilometres of roads across the state in the past six years.
Among the completed projects listed are the 76km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road, the 65km Moniya-Ijaiye-Iseyin Road, 34km Oyo-Iseyin Road, 12.5km Theophilus Akinyele Road, 7.6km Gate-Old Ife Road-Onipepeye-Airport Road (with spur to Adegbayi), 21km Ajia-Airport Road (with spur to Amuloko), and the 5.7km Gedu-Asipa-Oroki Road.
Ongoing infrastructure projects include the 110km Ibadan Circular Road, the 45km Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho Road, the 48km Ido-Eruwa Road, as well as feeder roads within Ibadan and about 87km of rural roads under the RAAMP initiative.
The Forum also lauded the administration’s success in the agribusiness sector, citing the development of the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub—now transformed into an Agricultural Transformation Centre—the ongoing construction of the Eruwa Agribusiness Hub, and plans for the Ijaiye Wholesale Market. These, they noted, contributed to Oyo State becoming the first sub-national in Africa admitted into the World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM).
On employment generation, the Ward Chairmen commended Governor Makinde for recruiting nearly 30,000 individuals across education, health, local government, and civil service sectors, while also enabling informal sector growth through policies geared towards economic expansion.
The Forum further expressed gratitude to the governor for his inclusive leadership and support for the PDP State Working Committee and Local Government Party Chairmen over the years. It, however, appealed to him to extend similar magnanimity to Ward Chairmen, who they said have consistently served and contributed to the party’s successes.
