The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, has promised to sustain and improve upon the policies and achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde, particularly in workers’ welfare, education and infrastructure.
Adekanmbi made the commitment on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, during an engagement with members of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and other stakeholders in the education sector in Oyo town.
The unions acknowledged what they described as the positive impact of the Makinde administration on workers’ welfare while presenting their demands and expectations for the education sector.
Speaking at the meeting, Adekanmbi commended Governor Makinde for what he described as his commitment to the welfare of civil servants and pensioners.
He said an APM administration would not abandon policies that had positively affected the people, but would build on them while introducing further improvements.
“Governor Seyi Makinde has demonstrated commitment to workers’ welfare and we will not do differently. We will improve on the achievements of the present administration because governance is about continuity and building on existing foundations,” he said.
He assured workers and pensioners that salaries and pensions would continue to be paid promptly under an APM administration.
“We will not stop the payment of salaries and pensions. Oyo State must continue on the path of growth and development, and continuity is necessary to sustain the progress already achieved,” he stated.
On education, Adekanmbi said his administration would prioritise the recruitment of more teaching and non-teaching staff to address manpower shortages in schools.
He also promised an annual training allowance for teachers, saying continuous professional development was necessary to keep teachers abreast of modern teaching methods and ensure that teachers in Oyo State could compete favourably with their counterparts elsewhere.
“I understand your pains. I have listened to your concerns and I will ensure that the welfare and professional development of our teachers receive the attention they deserve,” he told the education stakeholders.
He further pledged to consider demands presented by teachers and non-academic staff, including peculiarity allowances, representation on pension boards, additional recruitment of non-teaching personnel, upgrading of officers to Levels 16 and 17, and opportunities for staff conversion.
Adekanmbi also promised to support the digitalisation of secondary education through the introduction and implementation of e-lesson notes, improved utilisation of school facilities and enhanced security in schools.
He pledged consistent payment of grants to educational institutions and said his administration would explore the introduction of rural allowances for teachers serving in remote communities to encourage quality teaching and improve staff retention in underserved areas.
The APM candidate said the party would also seek to strengthen infrastructure across the state while ensuring that development remained inclusive.
Adekanmbi urged residents to support the APM at all levels in future elections, from the presidency to the state House of Assembly, saying the party was committed to sustaining and advancing the development recorded in Oyo State.
He stressed that the state had witnessed significant growth in recent years, adding that continuity, strategic planning and inclusive governance would be required to sustain the progress.
“We believe Oyo State is growing, and for our people to continue to enjoy that growth, there must be continuity,” he added.
