12 persons have been confirmed dead and 134 others hospitalized from cholera outbreak, in Mubi-North and Mubi-South local government areas of Adamawa State.
Director Public Health/ Incident Manager Emergency, Dr Bwalki Dili, made the disclosure at a news conference in Yola on Tuesday .
According to her , the ministry received 11 cases of acute diarrhea and vomiting from the two councils and the laboratory tests indicate positive results of cholera.
He explained that government has established emergency response centre, provided Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and intravenous fluid and deployed more medical personnel had been deployed to the affected area
Dili said further that the 134 hospitalised are responding to treatment at Mubi General Hospital in the state.
“The ministry conducted investigation and rapid laboratory test of 11 stool samples from the patients and all tested positive of cholera disease.
“Treatment centre has been set up in Mubi and the patients are responding to treatment”, he added. Dilli also said toll line has been set up by the ministry and urged the public to report any suspected cases of the disease to the ministry.
He advised the public to adopt safety measures, environmental hygiene and avoid open defecation and adopt safety measures like proper use of latrines
