Social Workers across the country have been advised to work in accordance with the ethics of their profession which include objectivity, empathy, non-judgemental attitude among others.
Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Community Development, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation in Oyo State, Mrs. Christianah Abioye gave this advice during Veterans Day organised by Oyo State chapter of Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASOW).
Abioye while commending the veteran Social Workers for their selfless service to the profession, state and the country in general urged serving Social Workers to understand the ethics of the profession and deliver their duties.
She said “Having said that, I would like to implore the serving Social Workers to understand the ethics of thei profession and deliver their duties passionately as expected in order to keep the flag flying. And note that, sometimes soon, your hard work will also be celebrated just like we are doing today for our veterans.
“I appreciate the Almighty God for giving us this beautiful day and most especially for the grace given to our veterans to be alive today to witness this day where their commitment, dedication, passion, diligence and meritorious services in various government institutions and organisations is being celebrated.
“For the record, I wish to state that these veterans have laid the foundation of this great association and their unflicthing support towards its sustanance cannot but be commended. Being a Social Worker as we all know is often challenging but our professionalism in helping individuals and families solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives is worthy of emulation.
“Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASOW) is quite spectacular in that, it attracts the largest membership base in Nigeria. This is because Social Work is an established professional discpline which works with other professions to play a key role in helping children, adults and families to take control of and improve their lives in conditions where their security, safety or ability to participate in civil life are restricted”.
NASOW State Chairman, Barrister Tayo Ayoade earlier in his welcome address informed that the aim of the veterans day was to appreciate those who have contributed for the growth of the association and encourage others.
