The Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Oyo state has postponed the primary election for the selection Chairmanship candidate for local government election.
According to a party source the event was postponed for 72 hours, PDP leadership to meet stakeholders for further consultation.
Although the time and venue of the meeting is yet to be made public but all the stakeholders are expected to attend the crucial meering where the issues that may affect the credibility of the election and unity of the party will be discuss.
It was reported that some party stalwart have hijacked the process against the intention of the Governor who want the process to be transparent.
Multiple party sources also told our reporter that those who are undermining the governor’s intention of transparency of the process include some of his aides.
“Majority of those that are doing this are not popular, they knew conducting free and fair primary election wont favour them so they want to corner everything, their action is not only detrimental to the deepening of democracy which our governor is preaching but further polarised the party and may affect the ongoing reconciliation process, so the governor should do everything possible to ensure equity and openess in the process and i am sure he would be more respected as a responsible leader and party man.
