Tope Oye Alamu, a member of the All Progressives Congress APC is the immediate past secretary Ogbomoso South Local Government, He is aspiring to be the next State Youth Leader of the party. In this interview with Remi Oladoye ,he spoke on his vision, Not too young to run and the party . Excerpts
You are aspiring for the position of youth leader in the coming executives of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo state, how prepared are your and what are your plans
Thank you, we are trying our best in our own little way, consultation is ongoing and we are sure of the best at the end of the day, You know when duty calls experience seriously counts, we are trying to apply political lessons we have learnt from our Oga’s and I know that God will crown our efforts with success
What prompted your decision to contest for the position?
I think as a member of the All Progressives Congress I have the right to vie for anything in the party it is on that basis that I believe that as a youth leader I can influence many things that will enhance the advancement of our great party, I want to use the experience that I have gathered in various associations , unionism, political organizations and others to unite all the youths across the 33 local government in the state , most especially in APC and those that are not partisan, majority of them are already assuring me of joining our party if I win the election because they have confidence in my ability to lead especially when It comes to youth matters, so I will bring those people into the party, and I want to use the office to ensure that the youths are seriously catered for in the coming general election, I mean 2023, I will put in my best to ensure all the youths that aspire for any positions secure the party ticket and win elections because the time is now.
In 2015 , the idea of not too young to rule was re-initiated and it pave way for so many youths, some makes youth of their chances to proof their ability to lead while some squandered it due youth exuberances. Are you satisfied with the level of involvement of the youths and their contributions to the National development or what do you think they should improved on
Trully, not too young to rule is an idea which I so much loved and passionate about and I will continue to be its advocate, remember I told you when duty calls experience counts, The youths that should be engage are serious minded youths with vision and ideas that can change things positively, a youth that has a blueprint of what he intended to do to effect the desired positive changes, a responsible youths in politics who is involved in politics should not just come in because of what to eat or acquire interm of wealth and influence , the mission of any youth in politics is basically to make positive impact and influence development in their constituencies, we need youths that we work to effect changes towards emplacing a better future for their localities, state and the Nation at large, Politics is not meant for any youths that cannot articulate his vision or plans or any youths that only comes around and relates with people during election because he won’t know where the shoes pinches. Not too young to rule is a nice idea but not all youth can rule
The recent ward congress organized by your party exposed further exposed the division in the party as parallel congresses were held by different factions, do you think such won’t repeat itself in the subsequent congresses.
My brother, everything is about ambition and I don’t think it is wrong for anybody to be ambitious, but we must all do it with caution , I want to commend the interim caretaker executives led by Chief Akin Oke, he is working round the clock to ensure that he presented a credible executive for progressives in the subsequent election which I am sure he would do, The chairman of the last ward congress committee has cleared air on the issue of the parallel congress in the state, he said he was not aware of any parallel congress , our congress is one, and regarding the coming one, we are harmonizing our house and I am, sure there won’t be crisis. It will be perfectly conducted
