We’ll Continue To Fight for Members’ Welfare and Advancement of Education in Nigeria – ASUP National President

National President of the Academic Staff of Polytechnics (ASUP), Comrade Anderson Ezeibe, on Wednesday declared that the union would continue to fight for the welfare of its members and development of Nigeria’s educational system.

The ASUP National President insisted that the strike embarked upon by members of the union nationwide is to salvage Nigeria’s educational system in general and polytechnic system in particular.

He made this declaration when he visited the Federal College of Agriculture (FCA), Ibadan and the Federal College of Animal Health, Production and Technology, Ibadan.

Ezeibe and some national officers of ASUP were at the colleges to monitor situation and to ensure compliance with the ongoing industrial action.

Ntional officers that accompanied him included: Comrade Yekini Asafe Nureni, Zonal Coordinator Zone C; Comrade Nurudeen Masopa, National Internal Auditor; and Comrade Dr. Fatai Afolabi, Zonal Treasurer Zone C and chapter Chairman of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.

They were received by chapter Chairmen of the two colleges, namely: Comrade Olaoye Olufemi (FCA) and Comrade Qasim Afolabi (FCAHPT) and ASUP members in the institutions.

In his speech, Comrade Ezeibe declared that the strike was to protect the country’s educational system and particularly polytechnic system from total collapse.

Ezeibe revealed that although the industrial action has started to yeild some positive results, the strike still continues.

He urged members of the union to remain steadfast and resolute in the ongoing strike, saying “we should all work together to salvage the country’s educational system”.

The ASUP National President, however, hinted that his team was impressed with the level of compliance in the two institutions.

ASUP members in the two colleges also used the opportunity to brief the national leadership of the union of the peculiar problems facing their respective institutions.

In his response,he said ASUP at the National level is tidying up its findings on the Identity issue of the Colleges and that after a thorough work, the Union will come out with a position paper to engage the government as to the college’s peculiarities.
