Ghana has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of eight high-profile individuals, including two cabinet ministers, in a military helicopter crash in the southern Ashanti Region on Wednesday.
The deceased include:
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment
Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
Mr. Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate
Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu
Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
According to a statement by Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Z-9 military helicopter lost contact during its flight from Accra to Obuasi, a key mining town in southern Ghana. The aircraft was carrying five government officials and three military personnel when it crashed.
“This is a national tragedy of unimaginable proportions,” Debrah said in a video address. “We have lost dedicated leaders and loyal servicemen
