President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
The nomination, according to a State House press release issued on Thursday, has been formally transmitted to the Senate for screening and approval in line with constitutional provisions.
Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
The minister-designate, an indigene of Oyo State, is described as a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across both public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.
Currently, Tegbe is the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, a role in which he coordinates development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China, while aligning engagements with broader economic development goals.
He is also said to have extensive experience in the power sector, including involvement in regulatory and institutional reforms with agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
The Presidency noted that Tegbe’s nomination is expected to reinforce ongoing reforms in the power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investments in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that, upon confirmation, Tegbe would leverage his expertise to drive critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector.
The statement was signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, and dated April 30, 2026.
