  • There is a single word that serves as a fitting representation of 2020 – RESILIENCE”.

Very few periods over the course of modern history have tested our resilience and shaped humanity, culture and politics the way 2020 has.

From a global health pandemic, EndSars protest, prolonged ASUU strikes, terrorism, banditry, herdsmen killings, kidnapping, injustices and an increasingly volatile climate to complex geopolitics and a divisive country, the impact of this year will be felt for decades to come. No doubt.

Our ability as a society to adapt, innovate and grow on a global and local level has been extraordinary.

A year in review might suggest that the moments are behind us.

What 2020 has shown is; the events that defined this year will last a lifetime.

It goes without saying that 2020 has been a year like no other.

As unrelenting as the headwinds were, the picture I got — citizens and rural communities across Nigeria exhibiting courage, humility and sacrifice made me optimistic that ours is a great nation.

Resilience is what defined 2020, but more importantly, it will be what takes us forward as a nation in the coming year.

Thanking the Executive Governor of Oyo State and his cabinet members; PDP elders and stakeholders all PDP members in the Ibadan Southwest Local Government; the Ibadan Southwest Local Government Executives; the State Executives and Ward 12 Executives who welcomed me with open arms into the party fold.

I’m equally thanking everyone who joined me on my political journey this year.

I look forward to the prospect of a Christmas and New year in which we can see each other in person, share a handshake or hug, and pass one another on the street with a big smile on our faces.

‌Here’s to a healthy Xmas and happy 2021 for you and yours.

From: Hon. Opeyemi Fatola (PDP member, Ibadan Southwest Local Government)
