The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment in a series of appeals and cross-appeals arising from the leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The appeals stem from earlier rulings of the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, delivered by Justices Omotosho and Lifu, which nullified the PDP’s national convention held in Ibadan.
The appellate court had upheld the lower court’s decisions, including the suspension of key party figures such as Samuel Anyanwu and A.K. Ajibade (SAN), alongside other former officers of the party.
Dissatisfied with the outcome, the PDP approached the apex court, arguing that both the trial court and the appellate court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the suit, describing it as an internal party matter.
In response, Samuel Anyanwu and other respondents filed a cross-appeal, seeking to overturn aspects of the judgment relating to their suspension.
At the hearing, all parties adopted their written addresses before the court reserved judgment to a later date to be communicated to counsel
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP urged its members to remain steadfast, expressing confidence that the apex court would deliver a judgment that upholds Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
