Suicide: Identity of Man Who Jumped from Bank’s Mast in Ibadan Unveiled

A middle-aged man simply identified as Sola on Saturday climbed mast of one of a bank in Ibadan to kill himself.

The man, who was said to be mentally unstable, jumped to his death from Wema Bank’s network mast in the Sango area of Ibadan to commit suicide.

Though there are reports that the deceased was mentally stable, but no one is yet to ascertain what prompted him to commit suicide by killing himself in that manner.

It was gathered that Sola, a furniture with special interest in door manufacturing started exhibiting sign of insanity since he returns from Abuja last last month.

A source close to his family said his new behaviour was a serious concern to his mother and siblings and they were making help him.

“That very morning, he and his mum (Iya Gbenga  were at logger heads, the woman was talking to her and he  was shouting at the woman .

Sola who resides at Alaro area off poly -road was also said to have off his cloth at Elewure area before he moved to the mast and jumped to his death.

Public Relations Officer (PRO), of the State police command, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, while confirming the incident, said that the man, who stripped himself naked before climbing the mast, entered the bank through its small gate.

He, however, informed that the corpse has been deposited at the morgue of the Adeoyo Hospital in Ibadan.

Fadeyi further stated that efforts were ongoing to know the true identity of the deceased.

He said, “The naked man came to the bank’s branch in Sango and entered the building through its small gate.

“It was after he gained entrance into the bank’s premises that he climbed the bank’s mast before the security personnel became aware of his action.

“He had already climbed the mast to its peak, before they alerted the police, but before anything could be done, though the police responded immediately, the victim had jumped down to the roof of the bank.

“The District Police Officer (DPO) and Fire Service personnel, who arrived the scene of the incident, swung into action to save the man’s life, but the impact was so much that he crashed through the roof and fell inside the bank. An official of the bank was called in to open the premises.

“By the time the bank’s door was opened, the man was already bleeding through the mouth and was rushed to the University College Hospital where he was confirmed dead
