The Oyo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has given the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government a seven-day ultimatum to disclose details of its proposed ₦50,000 monthly relief programme, insisting that Nigerians deserve transparency and accountability.

The party also cautioned the Federal Government against turning the proposed intervention into a political instrument ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that access to government assistance must not be determined by party affiliation.

The Oyo ADC stated this in a press statement issued on Sunday by its State Publicity Secretary, Chief Rotimi Johnson, in which it expressed support for the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, over his demand for accountability regarding the proposed relief scheme.

The party said Nigerians deserved genuine economic relief rather than what it described as another round of publicity without clear funding arrangements, credible implementation and public accountability.

It challenged the Federal Government to disclose the source of funding, approved budgetary provision and total cost of the programme.

It also demanded the publication of eligibility requirements, beneficiary selection procedures and safeguards against partisan manipulation.

On the payment mechanism, the ADC called for disclosure of the payment platform, commencement date, duration and audit arrangements.

The party further urged the Federal Government to publish disbursement records and audit findings of previous intervention programmes, particularly TraderMoni and Conditional Cash Transfers.

It argued that the announcement of fresh assistance could not replace the government’s obligation to account for public funds allocated to previous interventions.

Expressing concern over the political implications of the proposed programme, the ADC warned that public funds must not be used as campaign resources as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.

“No Nigerian should need an APC membership card, party cap or campaign slogan to receive government assistance,” the statement said.

The party added that hunger must not become an electoral bargaining chip, accusing the APC-led administration of presiding over untold hardship while allegedly displaying opulence in the name of campaign mobilisation.

It consequently demanded full disclosure of the programme within seven days, independent monitoring involving credible civil society organisations and the establishment of a public disbursement dashboard that would protect beneficiaries’ personal information.

The ADC maintained that genuine interventions should be accompanied by transparency, stressing that secrecy would only deepen public suspicion.

“The ADC will keep asking questions until Nigerians receive answers. Accountability is not a favour; it is a duty,” Johnson stated.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to holding the Federal Government accountable, insisting that Nigerians deserve to know how public resources earmarked for economic relief are sourced, managed and disbursed.
